The Defense Ministry presented its special report on independent defense at the Legislature on Monday. During the meeting, the ministry stated that it has innovated in dual-use technologies and promoted industrial investment.
The ministry’s Armaments Bureau Director-General Lin Wen-hsiang (林文祥) mentioned that the government’s independent defense policy integrates the strengths of cross-departmental cooperation and the industrial sector to maintain military preparedness and create industrial benefits.
Lin further stated that from 2021 to 2023, the Cabinet allocated a total budget of more than NT$380 million (nearly US$11.9 million) to the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science & Technology (NCSIST) to develop three dual-use military and civilian technologies, including power electronics, intelligent additive manufacturing, and powered exoskeletons.
Lin added that the NCSIST has transferred its findings to private enterprises and promoted 41 industrial investments, with an investment amount of approximately NT$720 million (more than US$22.5 million).
