A delegation of seven U.K. Labour Party lawmakers led by Lord Leong, co-chair of Labour Friends of Taiwan and Shadow Spokesperson for Business and Trade, met with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) at the Presidential Office on Tuesday. The delegation arrived in Taiwan on March 30 and will depart on Friday.
President Tsai thanked the Labour Friends of Taiwan for strengthening U.K.-Taiwan ties and highlighted recent cooperation between Taiwan and the U.K. in fields including technology and offshore wind power. Tsai also expressed hope for U.K. support for Taiwan's accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), aiming to establish a closer partnership between Taiwan and the U.K. and contribute more to the world.
Lord Leong praised Taiwan's economic achievements under President Tsai's leadership and highlighted the role of small and medium enterprises citing Kavalan Whisky's global success as a source of inspiration. Leong says the success of Kavalan Whisky greatly inspired delegation members, confirming that continuous innovation can be achieved through learning from the world and integrating traditional and modern technologies.
