Residents of the Kinmen Islands are expressing concern over the implications for national security and privacy after a Chinese influencer repeatedly posted drone footage of the islanders and soldiers’ activities online. They question whether such actions constitute mere mischief or deliberate provocation.
However, military officials remain tight-lipped as investigations continue.
Officer at the Kinmen Military Command Cheng Chieh-yuan (鄭傑元) told reporters on the phone that they are unable to provide further details pending investigation results.
The influencer, known for flying drones dangerously close to sensitive areas, boldly claims to have flown over Kinmen once more, further aggravating security officials. Despite the military's ongoing investigation, the Defense Ministry has temporarily halted maritime live-fire drills, fearing provocation.
Opposition lawmakers criticize the suspension of drills, emphasizing the importance of adhering to planned exercises. Concerns also arise over the possibility of increased tensions between the two sides, especially as incidents involving drones become more frequent.
