A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Hualien County at 7.58 a.m. on Wednesday causing at least two buildings to partially collapse and suspending Taipei MRT and islandwide train services.
According to the Central Weather Administration (CWA) the quake occured 25 km south-southeast of Hualien County Hall, with a focal depth of 15.5 km with aftershocks still being felt.
The intensity of the quake reached a level 5.0 in Yilan, Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua, Hsinchu, Nantou, Taoyuan, Taipei, and New Taipei. Taitung, Chiayi, Yunlin, Kaohsiung, Tainan, Pingtung, and Keelung reached level 4.0.
