People fled a collapsing residential building on Beibin Street in Hualien during Wednesday’s earthquake.
Video script:
Bystanders continuously checked if anyone was still trapped as several residents struggled to crawl out from the collapsed building. The ground was covered in tiles and rubble and people shouted asking if anyone was still trapped inside.
Many people didn't even have time to put on pants before rushing out to safety. And the shaking was so violent that surveillance cameras could barely capture clear footage.
A shocking video showed a group bursting out from the building just before the entire first floor disappeared into a cloud of dust as the structure collapsed.
The five-story building in Hualien’s Beibin Street housed a breakfast shop on the bottom floor. Residents self-evacuated before firefighters arrived and conducted an emergency response, but some people remained inside. Motorcycles underneath the tin rooves were also crushed.
Luckily, all residents were eventually rescued with no serious injuries reported so far.
