Survivors of the recent earthquake in eastern Taiwan are sharing their dashcam footage, capturing the terrifying moments when they narrowly escaped rockslides and landslides. In one video, car drivers are seen speeding towards a tunnel entrance on Provincial Highway 8, just managing to enter the tunnel in time to avoid the rocks tumbling down from above.
In a fortunate turn of events, several construction workers who were earlier reported missing have been found safe. They abandoned their vehicles and sought refuge in a culvert, a pipe-shaped tube made of reinforced concrete, after noticing small rocks falling from the mountain wall. Anticipating the rockslides, they ran towards the riverbed and found shelter in the culverts, which are typically located behind the wells.
As aftershocks persist, drone footage reveals the extent of the landslides across the Taroko mountain area, with soil being dislodged and creating clouds of dust. The ongoing seismic activity continues to pose a threat to the region, highlighting the need for caution and preparedness.
