President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) met with a delegation from the U.S. think tank Project 2049 Institute on Wednesday morning, marking the 45th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA). Tsai thanked the U.S. government, Congress, and the public for continuing to deepen cooperation and friendship with Taiwan and strengthening their security partnership.

Tsai emphasized that Taiwan is actively promoting defense autonomy and demonstrating its determination for self-defense. She highlighted Taiwan's domestic shipbuilding achievements as evidence of its self-defense capabilities.

Tsai pointed out that Taiwan will continue to work with the U.S. to safeguard regional peace and stability in the future. She also highlighted the U.S. government's ongoing support, including arms sales under the TRA and the recent provision of military financing loans. Tsai says that the 2024 U.S. Foreign Military Financing Program also allocates funding to various measures and initiatives to support Taiwan.

Project 2049 Institute Chairman Randall Schriver praised the TRA as a crucial platform for U.S.-Taiwan economic, security, and military cooperation, enabling important progress. Schriver thanked President Tsai for her leadership in deepening the partnership between the two countries.
