U.S. President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida held a summit at the White House on Wednesday and issued a joint leaders’ statement along with a fact sheet after their meeting.

The statement underscores Taiwan’s crucial role in global security and prosperity, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. Additionally, the fact sheet mentions Taiwan’s support to Pacific island nations such as joining the U.S., Australia, and Japan in constructing subsea cable systems for Tuvalu.

In a press release on Thursday, Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry expresses appreciation to U.S. and Japanese leaders for their consistent attention to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. The press release also noted China’s ongoing military expansion and provocations pose severe challenges to the region. It stated that the joint statement has again manifested the international consensus of the importance of peace and stability in the region.

Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Jeff Liu (劉永健) said this year marks the 45th anniversary since the Taiwan Relations Act was signed into law, and Taiwan and its like-minded countries such as the U.S. have continued to work together. Liu affirmed Taiwan's commitment to continuing the cooperative effort and safeguarding regional peace and stability.
