Paraguay’s Congress and Senate President Silvio Adalberto Ovelar Benítez is leading a delegation in Taiwan for a five-day stay during which he will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and other senior government officials. The delegation landed at Taiwan’s Taoyuan Airport on Sunday.
Ovelar made several remarks upon arrival, saying that he is glad to have been invited by the Taiwanese government to visit again and feels honored to meet with President Tsai and President-elect Lai. He also emphasized that he believes the relationship between Taiwan and Paraguay is more than just bilateral cooperation; it is a combination of friendship and affection.
Ovelar added that the visit will present an important opportunity for exchange, stating that they will reach an important consensus and make decisions with the Taiwanese government during this time. He declared that the Paraguayan government is determined to support Taiwan and will back the island nation in its efforts to participate in the United Nations.
Accompanying Ovelar are the Chamber of Senators Second Vice President Hermelinda Alvarenga de Ortega and Senator Pedro Alejandro Diaz. They plan to visit several institutions to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s current developments in the economy, politics, and technology sectors.
