This year marks the 45th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA) and the Foreign Ministry expressed its thanks to the U.S. on Tuesday for reaffirming the significance of the TRA and of Taiwan-U.S. relations. The ministry emphasized the TRA’s importance for maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and highlighted how Taiwan has become a key economic and security partner to the U.S. as a result.

North American Affairs Director General Wang Liang-Yu (王良玉) says that senior U.S. officials, including National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell, have reiterated the U.S. commitment to Taiwan's defense and stability of the Taiwan Strait under TRA provisions.

Wang says the U.S. has continued to work together with like-minded countries to convey support for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. She referred to the U.S.-Japan Summit, the U.S.-Japan-Philippines Trilateral Summit, and the U.S.-Republic of Korea Integrated Defense Dialogue among other bilateral and multilateral forums.

Wang says that Taiwan-U.S. relations continue to expand, building upon the strong foundation of the TRA. She adds that Taiwan will continue to collaborate with other like-minded countries such as the U.S. to jointly contribute to regional peace and prosperity.
