Lutz Gullner has been appointed as the new European Representative to Taiwan and will serve as the Director of the European Economic and Trade Office (EETO). That’s according to a press release by the European External Action Service (EEAS) released on Tuesday, local time.
Gullner expressed his great honor at the appointment and his anticipation for the new role in a post on the social media platform X.
Gullner currently heads the EEAS Strategic Communication, Task Forces and Information Analysis Division. Specializing in countering misinformation and information warfare, he previously served as the unit head of communications and civil society dialogue at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Trade.
Gullner represented the EU during the first Berlin Taiwan Conference held in Germany and highlighted the EU's increasing emphasis on collaborating with Taiwan to counter misinformation.
The current EU Representative to Taiwan, Filip Grzegorzewski, who was stationed in Taiwan in September 2019 is nearing the end of his term in office.
