The Taoyuan area experienced a brief power outage Thursday morning caused by fallen trees from the morning’s strong thunderstorms. The blackout was the third in the past 3 days experienced in the area, though Economic Minister Wang Mei-hua (王美花) claims none were caused by issues of power supply.
In a meeting at the Cabinet this morning, a spokesperson for Taipower Tsai Chih-meng (蔡志孟) stated that the two previous outages were caused by ageing underground cables and faulty equipment. Minister Wang elaborated that it was an issue with power distribution equipment and that emergency repair crews were dispatched. As for the Wednesday morning blackout, the cause of the outage was two fallen trees, affecting 9,937 households. Luckily power was completely restored within five minutes.
