President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德) was listed among Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2024. The recommendation article came from former U.S. Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman, who introduced him in the article as “Atlas shouldering the world.”

Times Magazine previously featured President Tsai Ing-wen in its 2020 top 100 list, in an article written by U.S. Senator Ted Cruz. This year's lineup includes other international leaders such as the Prime Ministers of Poland and Italy, and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of the Philippines.

Presidential Office Spokesperson Lin Yu-chan (林聿禪) thanked Times Magazine and Jon Huntsman for the international recognition. Lin went on to say that not only was this a recognition of Lai’s achievements, but a recognition of Taiwan’s democratic achievements as a whole.

Faced with the responsibility of safeguarding Taiwan’s democracy, Lin says president-elect Lai will strive for stability, peace, and to instill trust in the public. Lai will continue to work with like-minded countries to maintain regional peace, stability, prosperity, and development to ensure a bright future for the people of Taiwan.
