Taiwan’s Vice President and President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and Vice President-elect Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) visited the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday. They received a briefing from Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) regarding current international situations, strategic and diplomatic challenges, and diplomatic objectives.
In the briefing, Wu highlighted Taiwan's significantly enhanced international support over the past 8 years, particularly from like-minded countries such as Japan and the United States. He underscored Taiwan's pivotal role as a force for good in the global arena and as a vital partner among pro-democratic nations, emphasizing its achievements in expanding and deepening international connections.
During his address to the ministry, Lai stressed the importance of diplomatic endeavors. He stressed the necessity of fortifying relationships with diplomatic allies and showcasing Taiwan as a positive force on the global stage. He reiterated Taiwan's commitment to upholding democracy, freedom, and human rights, affirming its solidarity with fellow democratic nations to ensure peace and security.
Lai and Hsiao were accompanied by the Secretary-General to the President Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) and National Security Council (NSC) Secretary-General Wellington Koo (顧立雄).
