In the fourth wave of Cabinet positions announced Friday morning, Chiu Tai-yuan (邱泰源) was named as the next health and welfare minister.
Chiu is an honorary professor at the National Taiwan University Hospital, and honorary chairman of the Taiwan and Taipei Medical Associations. He is also a former DDP legislator. Speaking about Chiu, Premier-designate Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) said that he was both knowledgeable about congressional routine, and known for striving to improve conditions for the medical community. Chiu was also described as someone who consistently provided solutions to medical problems, and has garnered recognition in the medical community for over 30 years.
With the president-elect’s proposed health goals, and mission to “make the nation healthy, and our country strong”, Cho believes the future is in good hands with Chiu. He assured the public that Chiu will continue to work hard to safeguard public health, and set a new milestone for a healthy Taiwan.
