Meteorological expert Peng Chi-ming (彭啟明) will step into the role of environment minister with the mission of helping Taiwan achieve net-zero carbon emissions. In an interview on Friday, Peng stated that by joining the Cabinet, he can accelerate Taiwan's transformation and formulate a clear map for implementing a green growth strategy.
The CEO of WeatherRisk Explore Inc. says that he supports the current policy direction of the Environment Ministry, but is also paying attention to environmental, industrial, and commercial groups. Peng elaborates that he will use an open government approach to communicate with everyone on issues such as the country’s unclear direction on carbon pricing and the potential for carbon sequestration.
Peng says that carbon reduction is absolutely necessary and that Taiwan’s digital and green transformations must be carried out simultaneously on two axes. He adds that achieving net-zero carbon emissions is difficult, but he will work hard to overcome the challenge.
