Premier-designate Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) announced on Friday that the current Legislature Deputy Secretary-General Ho Pei-shan (何佩珊) will assume the post of the new labor minister. Cho says that Ho served in her current position for eight years, participating in the formation of numerous bills, and emphasizes that her transition to the Labor Ministry will advance more legislation.
Cho notes that Ho advocated for labor rights extensively in her youth including the Kaohsiung factory closure case for which she was arrested and sentenced. He says that this dedication reflects her commitment to labor causes. Ho will be involved in many important decisions, including allocating public funds to bolster labor insurance funds and formulating the Labor Occupational Accident Insurance and Protection Act.
Cho emphasizes that with technological advancements, the diversity of the labor force will increase, requiring sufficient mechanisms and systems to adapt. He says that the Labor Ministry must address current social needs and propose measures to address various issues accordingly. Cho praises Ho’s personality which often assists in dissipating resistance during communications and expresses his belief that Ho will stand with workers and become a guardian of their rights.
