President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) visited the Institute for National Defense and Security Research (INDSR) think tank on Monday and affirmed their achievements in handling changes in strategic situations, recruiting research talents, and establishing foreign exchanges and cooperation in the six years since its founding. The president was accompanied by National Security Council Secretary-General Wellington Koo (顧立雄) and Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng (邱國正).
The president pointed out that the INDSR provides information on regional security, defense science, and technology trends, specifics on the country's strategic direction, and assists government departments in conducting war games. She added that the think tank has also continued to gather cross-field strategic and military talents to establish a complete research team, and through stationed Defense Ministry academic officers, the government gains important knowledge.
Tsai said that the INDSR has also been active in expanding Taiwan's international exchanges such as the Taipei Security Dialogue, which has been held for three consecutive years. She elaborated that these events establish channels for communication between Taiwan and like-minded countries, allowing the international community to better understand the situation in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific.
President Tsai stated that in the face of rapid international changes, national defense issues have become increasingly complex. She said that she hopes the INDSR will continue to conduct in-depth research and work with the government to safeguard Taiwan’s security.
