A bipartisan delegation of U.S. Congressional members, led by Lisa McClain, U.S. House of Representatives Republican Conference Secretary, and Democratic Representative Dan Kildee, arrived in Taiwan on Tuesday.

During their stay, the delegation is scheduled to meet with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), Vice President and President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德), and will also attend a banquet hosted by Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮).

The delegation's discussions will cover topics including Taiwan-U.S. relations, the situation in the Taiwan Strait, and regional security. The visit is expected to deepen Congress members’ understanding of Taiwan and facilitate ongoing efforts to bolster the Taiwan-U.S. partnership.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the visiting legislators include Mark Alford of the House Armed Services Committee and members of the House Ways and Means Committee. The ministry says they have shown significant interest in Taiwan-related issues and have consistently supported cooperation between Taiwan and the U.S.

The ministry adds that the U.S. House of Representatives recently allocated financial resources for Taiwan's defense under the 2024 Indo-Pacific Security Supplemental Appropriations Act. The ministry says this visit further demonstrates the support of the U.S. Congress for Taiwan and its security in concrete terms.
