President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) received representatives of overseas compatriot organizations from Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and the United States on Tuesday.

Welcoming the return of overseas compatriots who have been working hard abroad, Tsai acknowledged the visiting delegation as leaders of the overseas ethnically Chinese communities. She commended their efforts in facilitating the integration into local societies, expressing gratitude for their dedication to Taiwan over the years. She also underscored their endeavors to promote exchanges and advocate for the communities’ rights within local societies.

The president said she looks forward to their continued support, considering them to be a crucial pillar for the government and a driving force for the nation's progress. President Tsai also noted that their efforts have not only fostered regional prosperity but also propelled Taiwan's advancement.

Tsai said that the government has actively promoted the New Southbound Policy in the past few years, initiating extensive consultations and dialogues in Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Australia and New Zealand while strengthening talent connections. Tsai said that through the joint efforts, the total trade volume between Taiwan and New Southbound countries exceeded $150 billion last year.

Tsai hopes the overseas communities will continue their work in deepening Taiwan's partnerships in different countries to help pave the way for Taiwan to expand its global presence and influence.
