U.S. President Joe Biden signed into law a bill on Wednesday approving a US$95 billion foreign aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. The latest foreign aid will give US$61 billion to Ukraine, US$26 billion to Israel, and US$8 billion to Taiwan.

Taiwan’s Cabinet Spokesperson Lin Tze-luen (林子倫) expresses gratitude towards the U.S. government’s bipartisan support for Taiwan and the effort to maintain peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry also expresses its gratitude to the U.S. and says this direct act of support is also a testament to the stout relationship between Taiwan and the U.S. as this year also marks the 45th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act.

Regarding China’s criticism of the latest bill Taiwan received, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Jeff Liu (劉永健) says such a reaction from China is expected. Liu says the international community’s attention in the region further proves that maintaining stability across the Taiwan Strait is not a “domestic issue” as China claimed. Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry stresses that while Taiwan holds the responsibility to defend its sovereignty, international support from like-minded nations would help deter China’s aggression.
