Legislature Caucus Convener Fu Kun-chi (傅崐萁), who has been accused of interfering with reconstruction efforts in Hualien, is planning to visit China. DPP Legislators Lee Kuen-cheng (李坤城) and Puma Shen (沈伯洋) and Taiwan Economic Democracy Union Deputy Secretary-General Hsu Kuan-tse (許冠澤) held a press conference on Friday to discuss Fu’s alleged obstruction in the “Three Steps of Hualien Reconstruction” plan.

Lee, Shen, and Hsu are accusing Fu of preventing central resources from being distributed to victims, interfering with DPP’s proposed reconstruction regulations, while preferentially bringing Chinese resources into Hualien. Hsu further accused Fu of using natural disasters as an opportunity for political maneuvering.

In response to concerns regarding the reconstruction efforts in Hualien, Vice Premier Cheng Wen-tsan (鄭文燦) has held multiple meetings to implement cross-ministerial forces. The meetings focused on budget assessment, disaster reconstruction, and reducing the burden on victims.

Despite these alleged setbacks, Premier Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) said Friday that the Legislature has launched a reconstruction and recovery plan currently underway. He continued that the central government will keep working closely with the Hualien county government so that reconstruction and recovery work is carried out without further delay or interference.
