The Taiwan Foundation for Disaster Relief (TF4DR) stated that it has raised approximately NT$1.41 billion (US$43.3 million) following the earthquake in Hualien through approximately 183,000 donations as of 8 a.m. on Monday. The foundation will use the funds to assist in providing accommodation subsidies for the affected individuals among other purposes.
Earthquake victims from disaster-stricken homes will have accommodations fully subsidised for the first three months and will be re-evaluated for subsequent extensions. Those living in “code red” and “code yellow” buildings may also apply for living subsidies.
Taiwan’s Tourism Administration collaborated with local hoteliers to propose a short-term resettlement plan. According to a preliminary survey, 125 hotels in Hualien County have responded with willingness to provide housing options, totaling to accommodations that could house nearly 2,000 people.
The TF4DR pointed out that finding a suitable place to live is often the primary concern of victims whose homes were damaged due to the earthquake, stating that it may not be easy to rent in Hualien County in the near future due to minimal vacancy and availability. If there are still insufficient accommodations, the Taiwan central and Hualien local governments will re-evaluate plans for modular housing.
