Legislators from the Kuomintang (KMT) party and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) will visit Taiping Island on May 18, while no legislators of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) signed up for the visit.

The purpose of this visit is to inspect military drills and a new pier. The original date of the trip was May 16 but was postponed due to a crucial legislative agenda. This agenda included important votes on parliamentary reform, which are scheduled to take place on May 17.

The delegation of 20 legislators, led by Legislative Foreign and National Defense Committee Convener KMT Legislator Ma Wen-chun (馬文君), will depart from the Legislature in the afternoon of May 17 and fly to Pingtung. The next morning, they will take a flight to Taiping Island, spending about two and a half hours there before returning to Pingtung in the afternoon.

The schedule for the trip was modified to accommodate parliamentary duties and national security inspections.
