Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) spoke to the Legislature on Wednesday regarding the foreign guests who will be in attendance at the upcoming presidential inauguration. He says around 50 delegations will be visiting Taiwan for the event, and he believes it’s symbolic of how the world values Taiwan’s democracy.

On behalf of the Foreign Ministry, Wu expresses his utmost gratitude to the guests from allied nations, the majority of which are heads of state, prime ministers, and other high-ranking officials. He also points out that many of the other nations are enthusiastically sending special envoys to attend the ceremony as well.

Wu says that he believes Taiwan is an important democratic nation, and that the new government taking office is indicative of democratic progress. He anticipates messages flooding in from all around the world congratulating Taiwan on furthering down the road of democracy.
