Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has announced that he will attend President-elect Lai Ching-te’s (賴清德) presidential inauguration ceremony on May 20.
In an interview with Radio Free Asia on Wednesday, Pompeo said he is pleased to have the opportunity to attend the inauguration ceremony and celebrate with the new leadership. He added that he is confident the new leadership will continue to work for the people of Taiwan, putting Taiwan first.
The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) on Wednesday also announced that a bipartisan delegation will represent the American people at the May 20 presidential inauguration ceremony. The members of the delegation include former National Economic Council Director Brian Deese, former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, former AIT Chair and current Brookings Institution Senior Fellow Richard Bush, current AIT Chair Laura Rosenberger, and AIT Director Sandra Oudkirk.
