Director of the Mainland Affairs Council's Hong Kong, Macao, Inner Mongolia and Tibet Affairs Division Lu Chang-shui (盧長水) visited a number of Hong Kong creatives to share their ideas and and experiences with the public.
The last five years have seen a large number of people from Hong Kong and Macau settling in Taiwan, during which time the government has launched policies offering support to immigrants and students from both countries. The goal is to recruit and retain talent, as well as encourage interaction and cultural exchange between the three countries and national groups. Lu stated that Taiwan’s free and inclusive society makes it a welcoming place for artists to express their creativity.
Some of the artists Lu visited were Foon Edman Ma and Anderson Lam, who recently immigrated from Hong Kong. As both are engaged in hotel management, they collaborated to create a hotel, “The Blue,” which combines aspects of their homeland of Hong Kong with their new home: Taiwan. The hotel is bright blue – inspired by the Taiwanese blue magpie – and displays art by fellow Hong Kong nationals Steven River (何世光) and Missy Hyper (鄭敏妮), a couple who also recently settled in Taiwan. Their work, featuring River’s hand sketch art of Houtong’s cats and Missy Hyper’s colorfully bold paintings, are among the most eye-catching displayed at The Blue.
Lu said he was happy to see people from Hong Kong and Macau living and working harmoniously in Taiwan. He reiterated his dedication to planning more diversified activities to help Hong Kong and Macau residents integrate into Taiwanese society.
