More than 650 foreign guests will attend May 20 inauguration

The Foreign Ministry on Friday released a guest list of foreign dignitaries and well-wishers for the May 20 inauguration. The ministry stated there will be a total of 73 groups and over 650 people coming to Taiwan to congratulate the new president and vice-president.

Attending the inauguration are eight heads-of-state, one deputy head-of-state, one foreign minister, and two delegations of special envoys including one appointed by the Holy See. President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) will welcome guests with a state banquet on the evening of May 19, and the Foreign Ministry will hold a welcome reception at the Taipei Guest House.

Guests from Taiwan’s diplomatic allies include Eswatini’s King Mswati II, Marshall Islands President Hilda Heine, Palau President Surangel Whipps Jr., Paraguayan President Santiago Peña Palacios, Belize Prime Minister John Briceño, Saint Lucia Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, Tuvalu Prime Minister Feleti Teo, Saint Kitts and Nevis Deputy Prime Minister Geoffrey Hanley, and Guatemala Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martínez.

Delegations from non-diplomatic allies including the United States, Canada, and Singapore will also send congratulatory delegations. Members of the European Parliament’s Taiwan Friendship Group and parliamentarians from the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, and South Korea will also attend.
