A survey says that support for same-sex marriage among respondents has increased 15% in the past four years, reaching a new high of 56.5%. The Taiwan Equality Campaign has been conducting annual polls monitoring attitude change towards the LGBTQ+ community and same-sex marriage since 2020 and held the survey press conference on Friday.

The survey was carried out by Trend Micro by mobile phone and landline. It sampled 1,082 individuals aged 18 years and older living in 22 counties and cities across Taiwan and has a 2.98% margin of error.

The survey showed that support for transnational same-sex marriage increased from 53% to 64%, and support for same-sex adoption increased from 56% to 66% since 2020. Regarding the Assisted Reproduction Act, 60% of respondents support same-sex female couples’ access to reproductive services, while only 50% support same-sex male couples’ access. Regardless, the support for both females and males increased by 6% and 5%, respectively. Seventy percent of respondents support single women’s access to artificial reproductive services.

Over 60% surveyed expressed they would have a positive attitude toward their children being LGBTQ+. However, individuals over the age of 50 largely indicated they would feel disappointment were their children to be LGBTQ+.

Legislator Fan Yun (范雲) attended the survey press conference, noting that while gay rights and social acceptance are advancing, discrimination and cyberbullying both in the workplace and at schools remain serious issues. She says she is actively working to pass anti-discrimination laws and upgrade gender equality education. Regarding the Assisted Reproduction Act, Fan says the Legislature is currently discussing whether or not to give priority to single women and lesbian couples.
