Amid the Presidential and Vice Presidential inauguration on Monday, Taiwan’s Defense Ministry assured the public that the armed forces remain ready and vigilant. The ministry clarified that contrary to media reports, no actions have been taken to have all pilots on standby or escalate combat readiness during this time.
As the ministry continues to closely monitor activities in the Taiwan Strait, it reported that six military aircraft crossed the median line entering Taiwan’s northern and southwestern air defense identification zone (ADIZ). In addition, seven naval vessels were detected around Taiwan from 6 a.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday.
The ministry stated that air and naval patrols were deployed with land-based missile systems to respond to the activities. The ministry emphasized that it will continue to use joint intelligence surveillance methods to monitor military activities of the Chinese Communist Party and respond accordingly.
