This Monday Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) swore into their roles as the 16th president and vice president of Taiwan.

After the crowd of politicians and special guests sang along to the national anthem with outgoing President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) on stage, Lai took her place. Lai bowed three times to the national flag and a portrait of Sun Yat-sen. Still facing the flag and portrait, he raised his right hand under the supervision of Judiciary Chief Justice and President Hsu Tzong-li (許宗力) to read the Presidential Oath of Office.

Lai took his oath swearing to observe the Constitution, faithfully perform his duties, promote the welfare of the people, and safeguard the security of the State. Hsiao was next to swear in, following the same motions and a similar oath. The new president and vice president accompanied outgoing President Tsai as she exited the Presidential Office Building, bidding farewell to her colleagues and marking the end of her eight-year presidency. Tsai took to Facebook to wish the two well, stating that she believes they will continue making great strides for the nation. She expressed her gratitude toward the Taiwanese people and said she will continue working hard for Taiwan.
