The Culture Ministry announced the release of additional “Culture Points” on Tuesday to support recovery efforts following the Hualien earthquake.

Culture Points, similar to digital vouchers, were made available last June to cultivate an appreciation for culture and the arts in young adults while supporting the cultural and creative sector in Taiwan. Equivalent to NT$1 (US$3¢) each, the points can be used at designated shops to buy books, watch local films, attend performances, or enjoy small trips.

Starting June 8, young people aged 16-22 who qualified this year’s program will receive an additional 1200 points (US$37). Though the points are for the exclusive use in arts and cultural activities within the Hualien region, which can be combined with any remaining cultural points and other discounts.

Valid until the end of the year, the initiative aims to attract over 16,000 people to Hualien to support the industrial revitalization. It is part of the earthquake recovery and reconstruction plan introduced by the Cabinet in May to manage Hualien’s rebuilding and relief efforts.
