Tens of thousands of people gathered outside of the Legislature in protest of recent legislation. Rti reporters Ching-en Chiou and Tristan Hilderbrand went to hear what protestors had to say.

Protestors are here with the mantra, "No discussion, no democracy."

The Legislature erupted into chaos on May 17 when Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) called legislators to vote on three amendments. The DPP said the complete contents of the legislation had not been made available to them for review and debate prior to calling the vote.

Some of the protestors said they see the recent events as a threat to the rights and freedoms of Taiwanese people.

When counterdemonstrators appeared, a couple of remarks were thrown their way, but several people surrounded them, telling the other protestors not to verbally engage, and to move along. Volunteers brought drinks and snacks that were free for protestors.

KMT Legislator Chen Yu-jen (陳玉珍) commented on the protest, saying that she respects the rights of all people to exercise their freedom of speech and freedom to assemble as long as the assembly has gone through proper application procedures.

Protests will continue through this Friday when the Legislature reconvenes.
