President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) attended the 2024 Taipei Tourism Exposition (TTE) opening ceremony this Friday. The 18th TTE will be held for four consecutive days at the Taipei World Trade Center starting Friday and is the largest event of its kind so far in 2024.
Taipei Association of Travel Agents Chair Lo Hsuan-hung (駱炫宏) thanked Lai for attending the event so soon after taking office and expressed hopes on behalf of the tourism industry. Lo said she believes steady exchanges in peace, trust, and pragmatism will shape Taiwan’s tourism brand, and that Lai will be able to lead the industry to exceed its pre-pandemic prosperity.
In response to Lo’s question regarding restarting cross-strait exchanges, Lai emphasized that the government values mutually beneficial exchanges, and will foremost uphold values of equality, dignity, and well-being.
In his speech, Lai emphasized two major objectives the government will adhere to in order to promote cross-strait tourism. First is the responsibility to stabilize peaceful development of the Taiwan Strait, and second is promoting economic development with industrial considerations.
Lai additionally spoke on the importance of integrating local tourism resources and said that large-scale exhibitions such as COMPUTEX Taipei and the World Masters Games can attract international tourists, further promoting Taiwan to the rest of the world.
