Two drivers have been sent to the hospital and vehicles crushed after a large landslide in Keelung on Monday.

Bystander footage shows the entire cliffside collapsing; with trees, soil, rocks, and huge boulders cascading down onto the road below.

An area of 4,400 square meters collapsed at the Chaojing Park intersection trapping 10 cars and one motorcycle. The two injured drivers managed to get free and were sent to the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital where one was found to have internal bleeding.

Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Emergency Department head Wu Chun-i (吳俊毅) says that after further checks a large hematoma was found in the patient's abdomen and he was sent for emergency surgery. Wu says the patient is likely to remain in the intensive care unit for observation.

Transport Minister Li Meng-yan (李孟諺) says the Highway Bureau has planned alternative routes to avoid further road disruption. Regarding the cause of the incident, Li says it is believed to be a natural disaster but that they will investigate the cause and provide state compensation if determined otherwise.
