Taiwan will continue to advance its AI industries: President Lai

President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) met with recipients of awards from the Chinese Institute of Engineers on Thursday and expressed the government’s ambition to transform Taiwan into a hub for artificial intelligence (AI). President Lai emphasized leveraging Taiwan’s strengths in advancing AI industries and investing in emerging technologies by promoting industrialization and integrating AI across sectors.

President Lai highlighted the contributions of distinguished scholars, Dr.  Hsu Tai-wen (許泰文), president of the National Taiwan Ocean University, and Dr. Tsai Ching-piao(蔡清標), a professor at National Chung Hsing University. Both scholars have excelled in research fields such as offshore wind power, and marine engineering garnering global recognition. 

President Lai pointed out this year’s theme of the Institute’s annual conference “Engineering Leading Smart Sustainability” echoes the government's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. He thanked the Institute for its continuous actions toward Taiwan’s industrial development, promoting integration with the world and enhancing global visibility. 

Lai reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering a smart and sustainable future stemming from AI technology, pledging continuous support for digital and net-zero transformation among small and medium-sized enterprises. Additionally, President Lai highlighted the country’s ambition in marine and space exploration, aiming to develop low-earth orbit satellites and robots, quantum computers, and precision medicine.
