This year’s Dragon Boat Festival will be observed over a three-day holiday Saturday to Monday, June 8 to June 10. President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) spoke this Friday following his trip to the Taipei Station Joint Emergency Operation Center with Transportation Minister Li Men-yen (李孟諺).
Lai mentioned that many people return home or travel abroad over the holidays, inevitably leading to large waves of people and traffic. He said detailed transportation plans have been put together for Taiwan Railway and Taiwan High Speed Rail, increasing the frequency of trains to better accommodate for the influx of passengers. The Freeway Bureau has also implemented various contingency measures, including ramp closures and special carpool lanes.
Lai mentioned railway companies conducted the proper security inspections before holidays, emphasizing the importance of service and safety. He encouraged the public to also do their part by paying close attention to traffic conditions and making use of the public transportation provided,
Lai additionally acknowledged the hard work and dedication of transportation, military, and other front line workers by expressing gratitude to them for spending their holidays working rather than with family and friends.
The Freeway Bureau also recommends travelers take public transportation in place of driving to save time over the upcoming holiday. Lai says he hopes transportation workers will respond carefully to allow people to travel safely over the holidays.
