Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo de León visited the Bamboo Treatment and Investigation Center operated by the Taiwan Technical Mission in Guatemala on Monday local time.

Arévalo was introduced to the manufacturing process of bamboo and was impressed by how the material can be utilized in the construction, furniture, and fertilizer industries. He expressed interest in various technical cooperative projects between Taiwan and Guatemala, as well as the issue of carbon emission trading.

Taiwan’s Ambassador to Guatemala Miguel Tsao (曹立傑) thanks Arévalo for his support of various development projects. Tsao says the bamboo industry serves as an important indicator of cooperation between Taiwan and Guatemala. He says Taiwan will continue to promote cooperation that benefits Guatemala’s industrial development.

Arévalo thanked Taiwan’s embassy and technical mission. He added that he hopes Guatemala can form a strategic alliance with Taiwan to accelerate industrial transformation in Guatemala.

Arévalo was accompanied by the Guatemalan Foreign Minister Carlos Martínez, Agriculture Minister Maynor Estrada, Environment Minister Patricia Orantes, and other officials.
