Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) spoke to the Cabinet this Thursday regarding what the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says may be the sixth wave of Omicron after the center noted weekly COVID-19 cases increased by 25% from the previous week. Not only were there 328 new cases last week, there were also 20 COVID-related deaths.
Cho pointed out the great threat the epidemic from four years ago posed to people’s health and property, and stated that the government is responding with preemptive measures to prevent a COVID-19 resurgence. Cho said he has instructed the Health Ministry to prepare a sufficient amount of vaccines, and called on the public to get vaccinated to ensure individual and household safety.
The Cabinet noted that domestic antiviral drug stocks include 208,000 Paxlovid and 112,000 Remdesivir doses, pills that are used to treat infected patients. Vaccine stocks include 2.917 million Moderna and 53,000 Novavax doses.
The CDC reminds those seeking vaccination to bring a National Health Insurance card or other identification to their appointment and inform the doctor of their vaccination history during the assessment.
