MediaTek and DBS Bank have become the first companies to win 104 Job Bank’s Best Employer Brand Award. Representatives from both companies had the opportunity to speak at a press conference on Friday.
According to findings from 104 Job Bank, Taiwanese companies are facing greater difficulties with recruitment and retention; on average, each job opportunity only attracts 0.5 job seekers. It is thought that creating and marketing an “employer brand” will become more important to attracting and retaining employees. The Employer Brand Award was created to encourage companies to develop further in this direction.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) stated that Nvidia and MediaTek intend to recruit 1,000 engineers in Taiwan within five years. In response to concerns about retaining talent, executives said they will provide a competitive salary and career development opportunities and are confident they can keep up with other AI giants internationally.
DBS Bank Taiwan’s human resources officer Chu Li-wen (朱麗文) pointed out that it has already introduced AI technology in recruitment to help screen large numbers of resumes. She said the company also uses AI for translation, voice editing, presentation-making, and other functions, and that departments are encouraged to implement AI in their daily work. Chu emphasized that in the future, AI will only be more prevalent in the workplace and that although it will not be able to replace human talent, employees should strive to familiarize themselves with AI as a career skill.
Earlier this month, Huang announced that a second R&D center for Nvidia will be constructed in Taiwan. The decision has prompted the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) to begin drafting laws outlining administrative regulations, national priorities, and basic principles for AI development.
