President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) called for higher wages, childcare, and smart transformation in detailing the new government’s economic policy goals in his meeting with the Chinese National Association of Industry and Commerce (CNAIC) Board of Directors on Monday.

Lai said that he hopes CNAIC companies can take the lead in solving the stagnant wage problem, which will encourage young people and benefit businesses in the long term. He additionally emphasized companies can set up childcare centers and employee dormitories, adding that though the government will continue to implement social housing and rent subsidies, if the business community is willing to help, Taiwan can effectively solve the housing problem of the younger generation.

The president also said that he hopes enterprises can assist with the government’s future policies or smart and net-zero transformation. He stated that the CNAIC plays a pivotal role and serves as a bridge between the industry and the government, reflecting the voice of enterprises, and bringing government policies closer to public opinion.
