Taipei is hosting the 23rd International Conference on Emergency Medicine (ICEM) from Wednesday to Sunday at the Taipei International Convention Center and Taipei World Trade Center. This year’s theme is Glocalization: Global Wisdom and Local Solution.
The ICEM has been organized by the International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM) since its establishment in 1986. Taiwan became the fourth Asian nation to host the conference after Taiwan Society of Emergency Medicine’s successful bid.
President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) attended the ICEM opening ceremony alongside Health and Welfare Minister Chiu Tai-yuan (邱泰源). Lai spoke about the government’s goal to create a healthy Taiwan, which includes a prosperous medical system, diverse medical services, and a future in which Taiwan contributes to global health through international exchanges.
President Lai thanked the roughly 2,500 experts and scholars in attendance for traveling to Taiwan from all over the world, and said he believes their participation serves as a symbol of global health partnerships. He also encouraged attendees to support Taiwan’s participation in the WHO to allow Taiwan to contribute even further. Lai stated that he believes the global epidemic prevention network can only be successful with the participation of every country in the world.
