TSMC’s first Kumamoto factory is expected to take on more than 100 high school graduates in addition to the university and technical school graduates from their latest recruitment campaign, according to Japanese media. Partner Japan Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing, Inc. (JASM) has recently added 256 people to their team this spring, though with the plant planned to be fully operational this year, more recruits will be needed.
The Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) released the starting salaries on Monday. High school graduates begin at 190,000 yen (approximately US$1,200) and engineers graduating from universities will range from 215,000 yen (roughly US$1,340) to 280,000 yen (approximately US$1,740),
With plans to build a second factory on adjacent land in the second half of 2024, TSMC estimates that the two plants in Kumamoto will employ more than 3,400 semiconductor-related elite talents at peak performance.
