AI research and development is taking off in Taiwan with the government and AI tech giant Nvidia’s support.

AI godfather Jensen Huang is referring to the largest supercomputer that his company Nvidia has helped build so far. Taipei-1 is equipped with Nvidia’s DGX h100, dubbed the “most complete AI platform,” and will be available to use for free for AI on Chip Taiwan Alliance and the Trustworthy AI Dialogue Engine.
The China Steel Corporation (CSC) and the Industrial Technology Research Institute will have access to the second-strongest AI infrastructure OVX systems on Taipei-1. The entities will be able to use the supercomputer for 6 weeks from July to September this year.
Semiconductor analyst Chai Huan-hsin (柴煥欣) says the H100 platform is one of the most advanced AI server products.
The Economic Ministry elaborates that this is the first time Taiwan has been able to convince a foreign tech company to share its AI capabilities with Taiwan. The total values generated by Nvidia are foreseen at NT$ 400 million (US$12 million).
While Nvidia’s prospects are looking good and consistently regarded to be leading the AI industry, independent research firm New Street Research downgraded the company from Buy to Neutral last Friday, citing that the stock value has caught up with the expectations. Analyst Pierre Ferragu thinks that additional upside potential “will only materialize in a bull market,” and sees Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (TSMC) as the “best names to own '' in the semiconductor industry.
