The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued high-temperature alerts for 18 counties and cities across Taiwan on Tuesday. A red alert warning is in place for New Taipei City, where temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 38 C (100.4 F) for the next three days.

Orange heat alerts have been issued for Taipei City and Chiayi, where temperatures could also soar to 38 C. Other cities and counties including Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Taichung, Changhua, Nantou, Yunlin, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Taitung may see consecutive days with temperatures of 36 C (96.8 F).

Yellow warnings have been issued for Keelung and the counties of Miaoli, Yilan, and Hualien, meaning daily highs of 36 C.

The CWA advises people to avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and seek shelter indoors to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Apart from the high temperatures, afternoon thunderstorms are also likely to develop, with a higher chance of rainfall and more widespread rain areas south of Chiayi. North of Yunlin there is also a chance of localized short-duration heavy rains in mountainous and nearby areas.
