Since May, tourists have been flocking to Penghu Islands for the annual Penghu International Fireworks Festival. The fireworks and drone performances are organized until the end of July. However, a glitch in the drone performance on Tuesday left many audiences confused and deflated.
It started with a 20-minute delay with the fireworks, followed by disrupted and incomplete patterns produced by the drones.
Many tourists came early to queue for vantage spots. One of the main attractions is the drones recreating characters and figures from the famous Japanese manga series One Piece.
The enthusiastic spectators were soon bewildered. The drones created broken patterns which left many wondering if something was wrong with their own vision.
One tourist said he felt a bit disappointed. He could not figure out what the patterns were. Others appreciated the fireworks performance at the opening of the event, but were confused by the drones’ disjointed shapes.
Addressing the issue, the Penghu Tourism Department explained that poor signal and unauthorized drones flying in the area caused interference with the performing drones. They are currently investigating the source of the glitch.
Although the fireworks display eased the frustration of some tourists, many expect authorities to quickly resolve the issue to prevent similar incidents in the future.
