The 2024 Presidential Palace Concert, themed “The Power of Freedom”, will be held at the Arts Plaza of the National Theater and Concert Hall (NTCH) from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on July 20. This is the first time the concert will be held in conjunction with Olympic events, which are set to begin on July 26. One goal for the concert is to invigorate all the athletes competing on behalf of Taiwan, as a blessing before they compete on the international stage.
The concert is designed to echo that of a sports competition, with the 5 parts each named after a moment of competition. The performances feature songs in Mandarin, Hakka, and indigenous languages, spanning pop, classical music, and performance art genres. It aims to represent a unified voice of Taiwan, as a cross-ethnic, cross-generational, and cross-field event.
The concert is free for the public to attend. NTCH will have 3,500 seats available. Attendants of note include allied foreign envoys, Taiwanese politicians, heads of various cultural agencies, and friends and family members of current Taiwanese Olympic athletes, and former Olympic medalists.
For those who cannot attend, the concert will be broadcast by various Taiwanese networks, CTS Main Channel, TaiwanPlus, SET News, Rti, and the official website of the Presidential Office Building.
