In the wake of Typhoon Gaemi, a wave of tropical storms appears to be approaching Taiwan. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) said on Monday that this wave will hit Taiwan Tuesday and Wednesday. Fortunately, conditions for these storms to develop into typhoons are not ideal, but the regions hit hardest by Gaemi are advised to be mindful.
Wind shear conditions should prevent the tropical systems forming in the east from approaching Taiwan. However, the CWA warned that before the low-pressure belt that generated these systems dissipates, Taiwan could once again experience heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds, especially in Yilan and Hualien. In addition, long waves may develop along the eastern and southern coasts.
The CWA predicts that the low-pressure belt will dissipate by Wednesday, although central and southern coasts will still be affected by southwesterly winds and some scattered showers.
