The Presidential Office has appointed Yang Yi-shan (楊懿珊), Deputy Secretary-General of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), as Taiwan's Deputy Representative to the United States. Yang was officially appointed on Tuesday.
During a DPP 30th anniversary event for the renaming of Taiwan's Indigenous Peoples on Wednesday, Yang shared insights from her recent diplomatic mission to Washington D.C. She said that while Taiwan-U.S. relations are currently strong, there is potential for further improvement. She also highlighted the importance of inspiring more young people to engage in diplomacy.
Yang called for unity to advance Taiwan-U.S. relations, aiming for continuous improvement. She noted that achieving greater international visibility for Taiwan requires collective action, especially in facing geopolitical challenges.
Regarding her timeline for assuming the role and collaboration with current Representative Alexander Yui (俞大㵢), Yang stated that the appointment process is ongoing and affirmed her readiness to work under the current representative leadership.
