The Taiwan Rainbow Civil Action Association has announced that the 2024 Taiwan LGBT+ Pride will be held on October 26. According to the organizer’s press release on Thursday, this year’s event will focus on the theme of “Embrace Inclusion,” aiming to foster dialogue and deepen understanding of gender issues in daily life.
The press release highlights recent developments in Taiwanese society regarding gender issues. Notable examples include the extensive media coverage of RuPaul's Drag Race winner Nymphia Wind and the increased visibility of drag culture. Additionally, during May’s protests at the Legislature, there were significant calls for women to speak out, as well as criticism of derogatory language used against them. Debates on in vitro fertilization and anti-discrimination laws are also gaining momentum, reflecting a growing desire for concrete actions to protect the rights of diverse communities, including LGBT+ individuals.
The organizers urge the public to embrace diverse perspectives and actively practice equality in their daily lives. They invite everyone to participate in this year’s pride event and support the effort to challenge systemic inequality, and said they look forward to contributing to the creation of a more open and inclusive Taiwanese society.
